Giant Monster Playset

No, I'm not talking about the Godzilla vs The Tricephellon Monster playset...though that thing was cool. No I'm talking about Director Greg Pope's new movie which takes the concept of Sympathetic Magic - the belief that one thing or event can affect another at a distance as a consequence of a synchronistic connection between them, and applies it to the giant monster movie genre with Giant Monster Playset.

The film features a young boy named Collin (Finn Pope), who receives a mysterious package. Upon opening it, he innocently plays with its toy monster contents. Simultaneously a gigantic beast appears, bent on the destruction of his own small town. The boy’s older brother Martin (played by Asher Pope) discovers the connection between the two and realizes only he can stop it.

Here are the two Teaser Trailers for the film

Looks cool right, great concept and a great Green Gargantua vibe from the monster. If you want more information about the film you can check out the official website

And in the meantime you can buy the soundtrack for the film on CDbaby or iTunes after checking it our here

I know what's on my Creepmas list...Godzilla Puppets

Just look at these puppets of Godzilla, Baragon and Gaira. Judging from the one video there appears to be puppets for a whole lot more of the Toho Kaiju then get featured. These had best find their way under my tree this year or headin' for the north pole with my brass knuckles.

Black Friday used to mean Godzilla

Like my previous post about WWOR Channel 9 in the New York area showing King Kong and other giant ape movies on Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving that channel belonged to Godzilla. The movies would alternate slightly over the years but Godzilla vs the Thing, King Kong vs Godzilla and Godzilla vs Mecha Godzilla were always popular. I could post the trailers but we all know those movies, instead I'm gonna honor the King of the Monsters with the artwork appearing the past few months in Space Magazine Uchusen - a Japanese magazine covering sci-fi/fantasy in film and television.

Munsters in the Macy's Parade

From a simpler time...without Spider Man: Turn of the Dark

Thanksgiving meant Kong

When I was a kid growing up here in New Jersey every Thanksgiving meant one thing, and I don't mean turkey and the Macy's parade. No, every turkey day WWOR Channel 9 would air the original King Kong at noon followed by Son of Kong and then Mighty Joe Young. It was like clockwork up until the dawn of the cable age and as a wee little monster kid I loved it. Those days are long behind us now but I'm feeling nostalgic so lets watch the trailers for those great films.

Godzilla vs Megalon Promo Comic

Given out as a promotional item in theaters when Godzilla vs Megalon was released..I know... I was there

Godzilla's Other Battles

I'm not even gonna guess what this was all about. From the looks of it there was probably some big deal being made over a pair of pandas, probably because they are endangered, but it seems the people of the Mu Empire wanted them and send Manda to take them. Note it's the Manda from Destroy All Monsters and not the Atragon version. Anyway it seems Mothra attempts to stop Manda and is unsuccessful...

So it's up to Godzilla who decapitates the giant serpent and rescues the pandas and apparently a kid who like signally touchdowns.

Hey, here's a bonus, Godzilla impalling Gezora the giant Cuttlefish from Yog.

Forgotten Monster Toys - Battle Brawlers

This is the first in a series of posts on forgotten toylines that featured, what else...Monsters...hey I'm Monsterfink after all...

Battle Brawlers was a very shirt lived line of figures, okay there were only two, from Kenner in 1986. The pair were a sort of fantasy/kaiju Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots. Both figures, Crackarm and Hammertail, can throw punches or scorpion strikes at thei opponent attempting to hit the weak spot and disarm (or dis- tail) their opponent.

The figures have a very cool look to them and I can't help but think if more characters or some more posabilty were incorporated that the line could have been more successful. Either way it's a pretty interesting line that can be quite challenging to collect now so if you go hunting for them good luck!
