Frankenstein vs the Wolfman

Came across this on my internet travels, The animation is a little stiff but when you consider this was all done on a normal home computer you forgive the jerkiness of the movements. The design of the Monster is very well done and it's a solid short story,

Universal Monsters Online

hold on....gimme a minute... okay I am awake and not dreaming, this is really happening...

Look at that willya?

Aint that sumthin'?

Yes folks what we have here is a Free to Play MOBA featuring the Universal Monsters, and we all know how special these guys are to me and my late Uncle Freak. Basically you get to pick your monster from the sizable stable of Universal Monsters and beat the snot out of each other. That's right, pit Frankenstein against the Metaluna Mutant and see which freak of science is stronger. Let Dracula mix it up with the Mummy, The Bride take on the Invisible Man, Wolf Man sink his fangs into the Mole People. I'm so damn excited right now I could scream! Seriously this looks to be great with some seriously solid character designs for the main monsters check 'em out after the official press release...

“San Francisco – June 12, 2012—Bigpoint today released new information about its anticipated free-to-play (F2P) browser-based title, Universal Monsters Online. The game, which Bigpoint is developing in collaboration with Universal Partnerships & Licensing, will enable players to experience Universal’s iconic cast of classic monsters in a highly-competitive Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) setting.

Taking on the persona of Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon – among many other notable monsters from Universal’s rich history – players compete with and against each other in a blend of combat and strategic game play.

Like all Bigpoint titles, Universal Monsters Online will be F2P. In-game currency can be used to purchase items such as new characters (after a free-trial period), unique character skins, and special abilities.

Bigpoint plans to begin closed beta testing shortly, and is now encouraging players to sign-up for early access at:http://www.universalmonstersonline.com/

Man I am loving that Bride design, she's got that pretty girl that stomp ya into the dirt look to her! And that Creature is KILLER.

Now get yer butts over to the website and sign up for a chance to beta test, I have, ya can count on that. Oh and while your there go to the character section and drool over the animated models of some of the monsters. I did and now I have a puddle to clean up.

Universal Monsters Online Game

Found this while lurking about the interwebs, here's the write up

"All you PC horror lovers out there could finally jump in joy because there is a new free-to-play horror-themed game coming out soon. Developed by Universal Studios, Universal Monsters Online is an MMORPG that is fast-paced and action-packed! It combines the use of 3D isometric graphics, cinematic audio, and even includes a deep gameplay for those of you who wouldn’t mind a change in controls for once in a while.

Inspired by the Universal Monsters film, the game introduces classic characters including Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man and loads of other iconic monsters online. You can cooperate with your monster’s companion to terrorize and wreak havoc when you wander about in the village. It is really a crazy and stirring thing to see the innocent villagers run away from you as they have never experienced such profound fear before. Join us! Step on a dramatic journey along with your loyal companion, and prove to the world that you are not to be played with."

I have no idea if you're playing as the monsters or a human, I'm hoping monster... you can go to the website and sign up for updates, I did.

Countdown to Halloween - The Halloween That Almost Wasn't

Hey Kids, there's another Halloween Special on! Come on and have a seat and get ready for some campy, very dated (it has a disco scene in it) Halloween fun with The Halloween That Almost Wasn't from 1979. I remember the night this first aired because it was on against Mork and Mindy's Halloween episode where Mork turned out to be very sensitive to ghosts and got himself possessed and...wait, this is about the special. Anyway, the Special starred Judd Hirsch as Dracula calling all the monsters together to deal with a rumor that Halloween was cancelled. The monsters include Warren the Werewolf aka Wolf Man of Budapest, the Mummy of Egypt, Frankenstein's Creature (John Schuck who would go on to play Herman in the God Awful Munsters Today), Zabaar the Zombie of Haiti, and the Witch played by Mariette Hartley (and a very WILFy one at that). It turns out that the Witch started the rumor because she hates being called ugly and wants to be Queen of the Monsters, Dracula refuses and hilarity ensues....

I'm not INSANE!

Well....at least not about this. I have had memories of a Colorforms set I had as a child but could not for the life of me remember the name and anytime I tried to search out a monster themed set I got no dice. I figured my young brain probably just combined some of the really awesome art that the Electric Company magazine would have at Halloween with a really cool monster flip book/card thing I had found at the local Pathmark supermarket. Well that was until 1:50am this morning while I was trolling Ebay for Universal Monster stuff what do I find?

The Castle Dracula Colorforms set from 1977....the one I was remembering all these years...behold it's coolness

What makes this really rare is the fact that all the Universal Monsters are represented - Frankenstien's Monster, Dracula, the Mummy, The Wolfman, The Creature, The Phantom and no Universal License to be seen. I'd kick a cat to own this.

New Mego Monsters!!!!

taken from www.100ymm.com;

Those of you old enough to remember the MEGO Corporation, the fabled toy company that practically invented the licensed action figure in the 1970s, will recall with chagrin that their “Mad Monsters” releases did not live up to the standards set by their DC or Marvel superheroes.

In fact, it’s commonly accepted that they did not even live up to their Farrah Fawcett figure.

That historical mistake is being corrected by EMCE Toys, the brand that brought back the 8″ MEGO format during the last few years. In partnership with Diamond Select Toys, four Universal Monster “MEGOs” are being developed for release over the next two years: the Frankenstein monster, Dracula, the Wolfman, and Kharis the mummy.

Prototypes of the figures were on display at the Diamond booth during this year’s Toy Fair and, though still pending licensor approval, the folks at Cool Toy Review managed to squeeze of a few shots. Have a look at:

Frankenstein's Monster

Dracula

the Wolfman

Kharis the Mummy

The first two, Frankenstein and the Wolfman, are scheduled for release in late 2010, while Dracula and the Mummy are slated for 2011. That’s right, you can re-enact Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman under your Christmas tree this year.

Despite the “leak” from Toy Fair, it’s still very early in development and some aspects of the toys may change. Keep watching for more details as they come in.

(Oh, and for those of you to young to know what a “MEGO” is, you’ll more likely know these classic 8″ action figures from their use on Robot Chicken, where their unique posability makes them a natural for animation.)
