The Universal Monsters Grave Walkers! Made by Rubies, these four beauties would look great displayed outside breaking free of graves...or a pond for the Creature, bushes for the Wolfman. Made of heavy duty foam like the usual assortment of unlicensed generic zombies and other grave burster type decorations but these babies ar officially licensed Universal products. Measuring 16 1/4 inches high, 36 inches long and 25 inches wide of pure monster goodness. Me, I really want to get them and mount them on the wall of my lab and make it look like they are bursting through the wall, that should make my daughter pee her pants.Saturday, September 10, 2011

Allow me to introduce myself...
As we head into the Halloween season some new faces will be dropping by the blog (hopefully) and so I thought I'd take the time to introduce myself.
Born in raised in New Jersey, home to Toxic Waste, Great Adventure and the Toxic Avenger. I was raised in a cemetery, yes a cemetery...no not next to...not near...in the cemetery gates. I grew up on a steady diet of Saturday morning cartoons, monster movies and comic books. Guess that explains alot...
Anyway, here's a fun fact list of things about me...why? why the hell not it's my blog...
- I'm an avid monster toy collecter, like you couldn't figure that out
- I can name whatever Godzilla movie is on in 10 seconds my music score or Godzilla roar alone, no visuals needed.
- Love the work of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth....hey I even put "fink" in my name and used to be called "Big Daddy Diesel Krohne" many a moon ago
- I just used the phrase "many a moon ago", you may shoot me now
- I have every issue of the Charlton Gorgo comic series, Marvel's Where Monsters Dwell, Devil Dinosaur, Marvel's Godzilla series and Marvel's Monster of Frankenstein
- I have a crippling fear of artistic success....keep waiting for the Watchamacallit series....
- I'm someone's father....can you believe that
Well thats me, Now lets get Halloween Blogging

Countdown to Halloween - Halloween Hot Wheels
Today we're going to focus on a Halloween tradition in the toy aisles, and that is the Halloween limited edition Hot Wheels Cars.
We'll start off today where the series began as Hot Wheels Halloween Highway back in 2002.
Halloween Highway consisted of 2 car packs and continued until 2004.
2002 cars included Pharoh Fueled/ Modified and Mummified, Bad Moon/Highway Howley, Drac Race/Nosfermoto, Dawn of the Road Zombie/Ride of the Driving Dead
2003 consisted of Seymoor Creeps School Bus/Fullmoon Leeza's, Phantom/Phantom 2003, Dr Van Auto/Van Auto's Monster and The Legend of the Swamp Skidder/Creature Del Grundo

2004 sets included Hag Race & Witchcraft, Dragbot & Robots of Planet Hypno, Grave Tours Limozeen & Grim Reaper Hot Rod and Monster & Brain Snatchers from Planet Deora

Tomorrow we'll look at the Fright Cars Series from 2006 to Present

It hit me today
like a ton of bricks.
My Uncle Frank is gone
There won't be a text from him asking if I was watching that crappy SyFy Saturday night Movie.
He won't be convincing me it's a good idea to wait in line to get whatever autograph he's after.
He won't be gleefully haunting the aisles of the soon to be open Halloween stores with me.
We won't be hosting podcasts about bad monster movies in equally bad make up
We won't be haunting the local horror conventions anymore.
He won't see his grand niece and grand son grow up.
He's gone and this sucks and none of this is fun anymore.

Gorgo
I'm a huge Godzilla fan, have been since I was five and saw my first Godzilla movie on the 4:30 movie on ABC. That being said I also had a soft spot in my black heart for England's entry into the giant monster movie genre, Gorgo. Now if you're unfamiliar with the movie shame on you but I'll bring you up to speed. Underwater earthquake forces unusual fish up to the surface near an island, giant monster appears, entrepreneurs capture giant monster, monster gets taken back to major city (London) and put on display, monster's skyscraper sized mom destroys island looking for baby then follows trail to London, mom destroys city until reunited with baby then both leave.
Now there was only one movie so no big series like Godzilla but before Godzilla would enter into comics with the Marvel Comics series in the late 70's Gorgo got his own series from Charton Comics in 1961. Through his series Gorgo would enter into situations that brought him into conflict with either mankind's armies, other monsters, aliens or world conquerors; and that his mother would have to come rescue him from. On top of some decent writing the artistic chores were handled by the great Steve Ditko of Spiderman and the Question fame. The series lasted for 23 issues then returned as a One Shot Special Gorgo's Revenge and then as the Return of Gorgo for 3 issues in 1963.
Now for as popular as this might make him seem, Gorgo never really got that much in the way of merchandising outside of a very hard to get Palmer plastic mini figure. Then as the dawn of the vinyl toy revolution a small toy company produced a figure of Gorgo's Mom that came with a mini figure of Gorgo. Hard to come by and high priced the item faded away.
Now Monarch Models is set to release a plastic model kit of Gorgo's mom in the tradition of the ole Aurora Monster Scene model kits. The kit looks beautiful (look at the photos) and is available for pre-order from Culttvman's web site here
Go pre-order it so you can bask in it's awesomeness when it arrives...and go watch the movie the DVD is cheap as hell.
