Halloween related bottles

I love when this time of year rolls around and the breweries begin to release seasonal beers like Newcastle Werewolf or Magic Hat Hex.
See I love to collect the bottles for the fantastic graphics on the them, but alas I do not drink ( it lets Hyde out ) so I'm not in a position to buy these cool bottles myself. That's why I'm asking my blog readers, if you have any cool Halloween or monster related empties and wouldn't mind mailing them, drop me a comment and I'll cover the mailing cost.

This week’s assignment from the League: Ninja Attack!

Who would you take in an 80′s character fantasy draft? Your team’s goal will be to defeat a shady conglomerate of Russian businessmen and their team of hired ninjas. It’s go time.

Hmmmm, an 80's movie about an army of ninjas controlled by a group of Russian businessmen.... okay...

But what if the group of Russian businessmen was controlled by none other then Rasputin, the immortal unkillable mad monk and his goal was the legendary Spear of Destiny held secretly in the basement of the Museum of Natural History. And let's say that army of ninjas are supernatural creatures themselves, ones that police can't kill and can only be harmed by other creatures of supernatural...

Well, the government would need someone on the case right away, someone they've been keeping tabs on and whose secret is known to them, New York City Homicide Detective Nick Knight. Yes the late shift cop who is in reality a vampire, his initial fight with the ninjas would prove that they can be hurt by supernatural creatures. The shadow government organization would recruit Nick from his police department for a "special assignment", but Nick can't do this alone...

Enter the next member of the team, Eric Cord, college professor of Folklore studies and secretly, a werewolf. Years earlier Eric was bitten and tried unsuccessfully to cure himself of his lycanthropic curse but instead found a way to control the wolf and has used the abilities to battle other supernatural entities over the years, sometimes on behalf of the government agency. Nick is introduced to Eric and the two head out for the next recruit with time running short...

The two head to Grand Central Station where they are to meet the next member of their group and are attacked by an ambush of the ninjas. The Vampire cop and Werewolf professor at first hold their own until the growing number of ninjas begin to overwhelm them. As things seem to be over for the pair a business man in a long trench coat and wide brimmed hat leaps into the fray, tearing the ninjas apart with a blood curdling laugh and strength that rivals Nick's. One of the ninjas manages to slash the face of this new combatant only to have the skin of the man fall away like a rubber mask revealing a corpse like half face partially obscured by bandages. The bewildered ninja is swiftly put out of his misery by a shotgun blast from a dark haired man dressed in a blue shirt and tan pants and bearing a metal hand that appears to have been made from a knight's gauntlet by a college student who really should not have had any knowledge of advanced robotic hand replacement. As the ninjas vanish, Nick and Eric greet their new partners, Dr Peyton Westlake or as he prefers Darkman and S-Mart Housewares associate and "Chosen One" Ashley "Ash" Williams.

The four head to the Museum as Rasputin and his army of ninjas descend on the city. Eric, Darkman and Ash head outside to battle the ninjas while Nick is sent to a special room of the Museum by the government agency. The Werewolf, Darkman and Ash, now sporting his chainsaw hand battle the ninjas as the panicked citizens run for cover. Rasputin appears and after being called "Mister Russian Fancy Pants" by Ash opens a portal to another dimension releasing Lovecraftian horrors that begin destroying the area. Nick rejoins the group as one of the large monsters barrels at the quartet. The foursome prepare to battle as they are pushed aside by the final member of their team and the subject of Nick's little side trip. The large hulking figure rushed toward the monster and brandishing a large machete cleaves the horror in two before turning around and staring at the foursome with eyes obscured by the hockey mask strapped to it's head.

Jason Voorhees, the terror Camp Crystal Lake,  looks upon the foursome and sees only his mother telling him to kill the naughty counselors which he scans the area for and finds running towards him. Of course these are the ninjas but thanks to Nick's vampiric hypnotism Jason doesn't know the difference. The ninjas are made short work of and an escaping Rasputin is grabbed by Jason and throttled before Ash beheads him with his chainsaw. Nick returns Jason to his holding cell beneath the sewers of New York and places Rasputin's head in a similar cell as Eric returns to his home and Ash and Dr Westlake, with false face in place, head off to investigate a sighting of the Necronomicon in a flea market in New Jersey.

stay for the after credits....

As they go their separate ways they are each watched by surveillance cameras by the shadowy head of the government agency. A spectacled man enters the room and asks the director if she thinks the five know they are being watched. Nancy Thompson turns from the screens and answers, "No Dr. West, they have no idea. but soon my Creature Commandos with be coming face to face with the man of dreams..."

This week’s topic from the League: Saturday Morning Cartoons!

Been a while since I had a chance to take part in one of these but I just had to this week. See growing up I have vivd memories of watching Saturday Morning cartoons and I wish my daughter could have had the same experience but alas those days are gone forever... anyway here's the set up:

You’ve been hired to program the ultimate Saturday morning experience for kids across the nation–create your own ideal Saturday morning cartoon schedule.

C'mon kids, it's Monsterfink programing this station, Channel 13 WGHOUL so get those bowls of General Mills Monster Cereals and sit down in front of the TV in your jammies, cuz here we go....

7 - 7:30 The Hilarious House of Frightenstein

Yeah, sorry no Captain Kangaroo or Kookla, Fran and Ollie to start your morning here, we're going to start this Saturday morning off with a show that featured guest appearances from the great Vincent Price and was one I used to watch myself as a kid...

7:30 - 7:45 : Mini Monsters

Something for the younger audience to watch, still not bad and a good foundation for future Monster Kids

7:45 - 8: Bigfoot and Wildboy

Possible one of the most underrated Kroft productions, I mean it's Bigfoot.... fighting crime.... and he acts like the Bionic Bigfoot

 8 - 8:30 : Thundarr the Barbarian

C'mon it's the King's work here and a cool post apocalyptic setting with magic and super science... and Ookla the Mok!

 8:30 - 9 : The Herculoids

Oh how I love this show, a team of monsters fighting bad guys and other monsters, how could you not love it?

9 - 9:30 Frankenstein Jr and the Impossibles

Quite possible one of my favorite cartoons of all time.. the 60's craziness... giant monster,,, goofy superheroes... pure heaven

9:30 -10 : Monster Force

I know I know, it's not the greatest but it is a licensed Universal Monsters cartoon

10:30 - 11 : Tales from the CryptKeeper

Nothing like some animated tales from our favorite story telling ghoul, it's like the moral spouting version of Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids in my line up

11 - 11:30 The Real Ghostbusters

Ah I remember when this premiered, still a great great cartoon

11:30 - 12 Mystery Incorporated

One, if not the greatest reboot of a cartoon series. Great writing, huge overall story tying together the separate mysteries

12 - 12:30 The Aqua Bats Super Show

The modern day heirs to the legacy of both the Kroft Brothers and the Monkees, combining humor, great music, cheesy costumes and general silliness.

We now turn your programming over to your favorite Horror Host Monsterfink and his Midnight Monster Spookshow bringing you the greatest monster movies of the past... from Gamera to Frankenstein, The Creature to The Crawling Eye we screen 'em all here on the Spookshow....

now check out these other league members programming line ups

Universal Monsters at Halloween Horror Nights

Word comes that Universal Studio’s Halloween Horror Nights, an annual fun and spooky event with mazes and the like (which features Alice Cooper, SILENT HILL and THE WALKING DEAD this year) in Hollywood and Orlando, will be adding the Universal monsters to the mix this year. Here's the official press release -

"Universal’s infamous legacy of horror will come to an afterlife in “Universal Monsters Remix,” an all-new terrifying experience that re-imagines the classic horror icons of yesteryear for the 21st century and immerses them in the twisted confines of electronica-inspired music during “Halloween Horror Nights” at Universal Studios HollywoodSM.

Set within the antechambers of an eerily gothic castle, the new “Universal Monsters Remix” maze will unleash a cast of movies most legendary creatures, including Frankenstein’s Monster and his Bride, Dracula and his Brides, Phantom of the Opera and The Wolf Man. From deep within the stone fortress, accompanied by ominous strobe lighting effects, guests will traverse dark and dank arteries of rotting catacombs, hallowed underground crypts and pagan sacrificial burial chambers. Laced with the murmur of dialog from Universal’s catalogue of horror films, guests will be besieged by the relentless sounds of high-energy, horror-inspired dance, dub-step and industrial music.

This year’s “Halloween Horror Nights” at Universal Studios Hollywood brings together the sickest minds in horror to immerse guests in the living, breathing, three-dimensional world of the most notorious and terrifying creatures. Featuring a slate of unrivaled film production quality mazes, terror-filled Scare Zones and a fully re-imagined “Terror Tram” experience, uniquely themed to today’s most definitive horror properties, “Halloween Horror Nights” will taunt, terrorize and torment guests with incomparable spellbinding and spine-chilling haunted attractions.

“Halloween Horror Nights” experiences will include an immersive new maze, “The Walking Dead: Dead Inside,” based on AMC’s critically-acclaimed, Golden Globe®-nominated and Emmy® Award-winning TV series; “Welcome to Silent Hill,” based on the popular video games and film franchise; a new maze by legendary shock rocker, “Alice Cooper Goes to Hell 3D,” and a reimagined “La Llorona: Cazadora de NiƱos” maze, based on the terrifying Mexican and Latin American legend that has terrified children for centuries. An all new “Terror Tram: Invaded by The Walking Dead” attraction, also inspired by the TV series, will invite guests to navigate the haunted environs of the world-famous movie and television studio backlot and come face to face with hordes of flesh-eating, blood-drooling and groaning “walkers.” Additional haunted attractions to be announced shortly.

The theme park’s favorite thrill-ride attractions will also remain open during “Halloween Horror Nights,” including the popular “Transformers™: The Ride—3D,” “The Simpsons Ride®,” “Revenge of the MummySM – The Ride” and “Jurassic Park® In the Dark.”

Details on “Halloween Horror Nights” are available at Halloween Horror Nights, on Facebook at: “Halloween Horror Nights – Hollywood” and on Instagram @HorrorNightsHollywood or #UniversalHHN. Updates from Creative Director John Murdy can be found on Twitter at: Twitter.com/HorrorNights, as he reveals a running chronicle of exclusive information. “Halloween Horror Nights’ maze announcement videos can be seen at Universal Studios Hollywood’s YouTube Channel.

“Halloween Horror Nights” kicks off on Friday, September 21, 2012 and continues on select nights through Wednesday, October 31. Event dates are: September 21, 22, 28, 29 and October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 31.

Universal Studios Hollywood SM, The Entertainment Capital of L.A.SM, includes a full-day, movie-based theme park and Studio Tour; the CityWalk entertainment, shopping and dining complex, the Universal CityWalk Cinemas, the “5 Towers” state-of-the-art outdoor concert venue, and the Gibson Amphitheatre concert and special event arena. World-class rides and attractions include the intense, award-winning ride, “King Kong 360 3-D” on the famed behind-the-scenes Studio Tour, “The Simpsons RideTM,” “Revenge of the MummySM —The Ride” indoor roller coaster and “Jurassic Park® —The Ride,” as well as the critically-acclaimed mega-attraction, “Transformers™: The Ride—3D.”"

Well I'm kinda excited but a little apprehensive about the electronic music part of the maze, but I'll stay positive about this. I wish I could experience the maze in person but kinda hard to do here in New Jersey. Anyone who might be going and can send pictures (or merchandise) my way I'd greatly appreciate it.

Universal Monster Rings

So I recently made a purchase on Ebay and I posted a picture on Twitter and Facebook which got quite the reaction, everyone wanted to know where did I get the Frankenstein Monster and Creature from the Black Lagoon rings, well I'm gonna clue you in...

They came from Ringmaster9511 on Ebay here and they are certainly reasonably priced, in addition to the Frankenstein and Creature he also makes and sells rings of

Dracula
Wolf Man
 and

The Mummy

Go and check out his stuff, believe me the pics do not do the rings justice. They have a nice solid weight to them and have a feel of quality I haven't found in a "biker" ring in quite some time and believe me I have quite the collection of the type of rings that usually fall into this category. The details in theses make them works of art, from the warts on the Creature to the neck stitches on the Monster you can feel the level of artistry. The artist said he's going to try and add some more monsters to the collection, hopefully a Bride and Metaluna Mutant.
