Nestle Spooky Group

By the mid-1970s, monsters were everywhere—on bubble gum cards, in Famous Monsters of Filmland, on Saturday morning TV, and grinning from candy wrappers at the supermarket checkout. It was a golden age for quirky horror collectibles, with Dracula promoting breakfast cereal and Frankenstein’s Monster selling chocolate milk. Among these was the Spook Group.

In 1975, Nestlé Quik launched one of the decade's most distinctive and visually striking monster promotions: a series of collectible monster card backs hidden inside boxes of Quik drink mix. Today, the “Nestlé Quik Spook Group” is mostly known through collector scans, worn packaging, and childhood memories, but among vintage Halloween fans and packaging historians, it is almost legendary.

The promotion appeared on boxes of Nestlé Quik—before the brand was officially called “Nesquik”—during America’s monster craze. Kids opening single-serve packets of Chocolate or Strawberry Quik found colorful cartoon creatures on the back. The boxes encouraged collecting all 32 monsters, although surviving evidence suggests the sets might have varied by flavor.

Unlike the slick corporate mascots of that time, these creatures had a quirky charm. They weren't scary, but more like midnight TV horror hosts with a touch of Mad Magazine humor. Their eyes bulged, fangs curved oddly, and limbs bent like rubber hoses from Fleischer cartoons. The art style recalled forgotten monster fanzines, with bright, flat colors, bold comic outlines, and exaggerated expressions.

These weren’t just kid-friendly versions of Universal Monsters; they were budget-store monsters, painted on carnival rides and plastic trick-or-treat buckets. Their appeal lay in being slightly off the usual design, a bit tacky, and entirely genuine.

Because the complete official master Checklist of all 32 individual names was never fully archived in a public registry, only a partial list of 47 casting doubt on the actual total number of monsters in the series. The following are all the packets and monsters I could find
